This is the passport to a new job; it is the document that serves as the window to all your job experiences and achievements in life. Just one look at it will open a door for you or entitle you for the next step which is the interview. This document is what we call curriculum vitae, resume or others call it simply bio-data. Most of the time the applicants take for granted the appearance of their resume. And this is the common mistake of people who are looking for a job, which results to them wondering for weeks why they never got a call on a number of jobs they applied for. I have been applying for so many times and I already know some of what the HR look for from a job applicant. Using a generic form of resume results into dishing out or sending your resume to the company's paper shredder because the information is not interesting. *Do not make your resume too long. Just limit it to 2 pages only because HR people often have no time to read all the things in a long resume. *Only relevant information should be placed on the resume. HR is not looking for your birthday and other extra curricular activities that you done. But they want to know if you could do the job and how appropriate you are for the job on hand. *Do not take for granted your spelling and grammar. You should read it over and over before you submit your resume, because if there is any mistake on your grammar or you do not spell it right the recruiter thinks you are a lazy worker who does not check your work. Use word tools if you think you are not sure on your grammar or spelling. If you are not confident you can ask a friend to make correct it for you but make sure your friend knows proper grammar and spelling too. * Put all the abilities you know. The more abilities HR sees on your resume the bigger the chance you will get the job. Because they want to hire a person who can contribute to the company so you must sell yourself and be an asset not a liability. For example you are one of the members of a charitable institution in your area. You know how to write articles, is a choir member or you know how to fixed the computer. Do not underestimate your small skills; it could be a help to make HR take a second look on your resume. *Do not forget to put your contact number; this is a common mistake an applicant makes. I know because I made the same mistake, too. It was my first time to apply for a job and I forgot to put our landline number on my resume. You should always put in mind that your contact number is one of the most important contents of a resume. Without this, you may lose your chance of being hired by the company you are applying for.
